RUSS CARMACK
Russ Carmack is a 33 year veteran photojournalist at the Tacoma News Tribune. A former U.S. Navy photographer and cinematographer who found his passion in visual communications in his early teens. Russ has traveled nationally on assignment and internationally to Somalia, Rawanda, and Bosnia covering our local area servicemen and women in various military operations.

His responsibilities include producing photographs for all the news sections of the News Tribune ranging from spot news, food, fashion, sports, and feature photographs. He has won regional and national awards with his photographs

Russ grew up in Tacoma and attended Tacoma Community College studing journalism and the visual arts before starting his photojournalism career at his hometown paper.

Peter Haley made two trips to Iraq to report on local units deployed in the region.

JANET JENSEN
Janet Jensen is a native of the San Francisco Bay Area. She has a B.S. in biochemistry from California Polytechnic State University.

She went to the University of Missouri School of Journalism to pursue a Masters in journalism.

After several internships at newspapers spanning the country Jensen joined the News Tribune in 1996. One of Jensen’s primary focuses while at the TNT has been coverage of Tacoma's ethnically diverse communities. She has traveled to the Philippines, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka for the TNT.

Doriann Bryon, right, born HIV postitive, dances with her mother Barbara Bryon as she celebrates her 17th birthday in July, 2000. Born only one pound four ounces, doctors did not expect Dori to live more than a few days. At 16 Dori was diagnosed with cancer and lost her hair to chemotherapy treatments. Her mother shaved her own head in solidarity.

BRUCE KELLMAN
Bruce Kellman has been photographing events, places and faces in Pierce County for the local newspaper since becoming a Tacoma News Tribune staff photojournalist in 1965.

He joined the McClatchy Company when it acquired the assets of the TNT and began publishing The News Tribune in 1986.

The 1967 University of Puget Sound graduate lives in Tacoma.

Staff Photographer Dean Koepfler is a native of Toledo, Ohio. He has a B.S. in journalism from Bowling Green State University.

He has worked at the Salem (Ore.) Statesman-Journal and The Detroit News.

He has been on staff at The News Tribune since 1990. In 1996 he was named National Press Photographers Association Regional Photographer of the year.

Koepfler built his own house on Puget Sound’s Fox Island where he lives with wife Liz, and sons Jordan and Evan.

DREW PERINE
Drew Perine, 45, has been a photojournalist for the past 23 years, covering the ebb and flow of local communities on both coasts.

A native of Perth Amboy, New Jersey, Perine graduated from the University of Missouri in 1981 with a Bachelor’s of Journalism degree. Previously he worked at the Journal Inquirer in Manchester, Connecticut, the Ithaca (NY) Journal and The Herald in Everett, Washington.

He joined the staff of the News Tribune in 1999 and was named National Press Photographers Association Regional Photographer of the Year in 2002.

Perine lives in Gig Harbor with his wife Amy and son Zach.

Lui Kit Wong is married with 2 children, a boy and a girl. His work history includes the Richmond Times Dispatch and Richmond News-Leader, Charleston Gazette, Pittsburgh Press, San Jose Mercury News, Norfolk Virginian Pilot. Ledger Star and Tacoma News Tribune.

Awards
• Grand Prize winner of the Sasakawa International Sports Photography Contest in Tokyo, Japan. A photo was chosen from his work as the best sports photo in the world.
• Holds the the national record for the most Regional Photographer of the Year awards from the National Press Photographers Association with 7 titles.
• His sports photography has been display at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C.
