Peter Haley was born and raised in Tacoma. He graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 1979. His journalism career began in Ashland, Ore., before returning to Washington, working in Seattle before landing back in Tacoma at The News Tribune in 1986.
Haley has won numerous awards for his work, including Photographer of the Year for Region 11 in 1985.
